Yard Birds
Yard Birds© are whimsical, colorful creatures that accent yards, gardens, and entryways. Handcrafted from garden and farm tools, each Yard Bird© is one-of-a-kind.
If a Yard Bird shown on this page isn’t available, please contact store@cityslipper.com. Often, the artist makes several similar Yard Birds, so there might be one available to suit you.
The price of a Yard Bird depends on its complexity. Some Yard Birds include hand-machined parts, and so are more expensive. Yard Birds range in height from about eight inches up to three feet. Made of gardening tools and iron, they can be heavy and awkward to package. To simplify pricing, I’ve added shipping costs into the cost of each sculpture.
We have permanently switched carriers and ship all orders via US Postal Service.
The Original Folk Art Yard Bird©
Whimsical, original, one-of-a-kind lawn and garden ornaments
Not all Yard Birds are birds. Whatever animals they represent, they look terrific almost anywhere. The artist made his original Yard Bird years ago, and it stands faithfully in his garden just a few feet from the back door of his house. The first ladybug-styled Yard Bird rests in a planting bed from which grows an old tree: home to, perhaps, a half dozen Yard Birds of varied styles.

Electrical Connection Box Spider
This is one of those Yard Birds that doesn’t resemble a bird. Still, a steel spider is the perfect defense if you’re concerned your garden or yard may become infested by steel insects.
Item YBID0006 Price: $45 (includes shipping to US address)
Hand Trowel Yard Bird
Here’s a wacky idea: use a hand trowel to make the body, tail, and neck of a Yard Bird, and give it a silly face. Standing only 11 inches, this Yard Bird is a bit longer than it is tall!
Item YBID0017 Price: $52 (includes shipping to US address)
Black Garden Rake Tail
At 20 inches, this Yard Bird will greet you and your garden visitors with a quizzical look. This one will stand out especially well against a bed of red, orange, or yellow blossoms.
Item YBID0076 Price: $65 (includes shipping to US address)

Yellow Hay Fork Tail
Got an old rusty hay fork to recycle? Someone did, and now it’s a Yard Bird that stands 19 inches tall. Makes a great accent against a background of dark foliage.
Item YBID0068 Price: $80 (includes shipping to US address)
Walrus-Stashed Yellow Bird
Standing near 20 inches tall, this yellow Yard Bird sports a walrus-tusk mustache. When I first saw it, I thought “Wilford,” but I trust you can think up a better name.
Item YBID0077 Price: $70 (includes shipping to US address)

Black Ash Scoop
Standing a nearly demure 13 inches tall, this Yard Bird packs a lot of whimsy into a small ash shovel. A Yard Bird needn’t live in the yard or garden; this one would make a great addition in a breakfast nook or on the breakfast bar in nearly any kitchen.
Item YBID0051 Price: $68 (includes shipping to US address)
Heart-Shaped Hoe
A modest Yard Bird, this happy creature stands just 13 inches tall. That’s getting small enough that you might find a place for it on your desk or bookshelf when the weather turns cold.
Item YBID0080 Price: $57 (includes shipping to US address)
Yellow Snow Shovel Yard Bird
This yellow Yard Bird takes up a lot of space! It stands about 24 inches, has a wingspan of nearly 18 inches, and stretches 22 inches from beak to tail feathers.
Item YBID0081 Price: $85 (includes shipping to US address)
Blue and Gray Hand Cultivator
At 8 and a half inches, this is the smallest Yard Bird I’ve ever seen. The artist made a modest number of smaller Yard Birds in 2010; only a few remain in his shed. When they’re smaller, there are more places you can display them!
Item YBID0059 Price: $55 (includes shipping to US address)
Green-Tailed Blinking Yard Bird
Another short, green-tailed Yard Bird. At 11 inches, this one looks as though it may be asleep, though I think it’s just blinking its eyes.
Item YBID0084 Price: $54 (includes shipping to US address)
Small Red Coal Scoop with Yellow Edged Beak
Nearly 14 inches tall, this inquisitive Yard Bird might fit better on a hearth than in a garden. It doesn’t take much space, and it looks as though it could shovel up ashes on its own.
Item YBID0061 Price: $59 (includes shipping to US address)
Small Red Cultivator Rake and Blade
Another in the artist’s series of small Yard Birds, this one is only 11 inches tall. Goodness, the name I gave it is almost that long. That beak! Those eyes! That crazy tail!
Item YBID0063 Price: $55 (includes shipping to US address)
Blue-Tailed Leaf Rake
Beakless and small, this 13 inch Yard Bird may be experiencing an existential moment. I imagine I’d feel the same way if I’d spent that entire summer in a garden shed. Save the poor thing from further confinement!
Item YBID0085 Price: $57 (includes shipping to US address)
